Blank Canvas… or Overly Colorful Canvas?
After more than sixteen years of experience in wedding planning and design, it might seem simple to adapt the vision of the bride and groom to the natural – and wonderful – settings of Sardinia and Italy. And yet…
Yet every event continues to represent a unique challenge, because year after year, a little bit of everything has been seen or done, and trying to be “original at all costs” is sometimes difficult, or forced, or conversely, you risk repeating yourself.
So the challenge is to re-create a blank canvas where the same location or setting has already lived other stories, and repaint it by designing an experience that not only tells the story of the bride and groom, but also expresses their culture, their dreams and their personality. When it comes to a destination wedding, the challenge becomes even more fascinating, intensifying the creativity and emotion of the project.
A perfect example of this creative challenge was the wedding of Hao and Zhe, an Asian couple with a varied and contemporary taste, who chose Sardinia not by vocation but after an endless search “in all places and in all lakes”. And those who work with the Asian market know what I’m referring to…
This wedding was not just a union, but a journey of knowledge and experience that combined Chinese traditions with the uncontaminated beauty of Sardinia, a scenario, for this couple, totally unknown and therefore risky and fascinating at the same time.
Sardinia and Gallura, with its breathtaking rocky landscapes and its millenary history, offered the ideal scenario for a wedding that had to be something more than a simple event: for Hao and Zhe it had to become an immersive experience, which would impress their guests and remain etched in the collective memory as the journey of a lifetime, bringing the modern influences of the couple into nature.
Every stylistic choice was designed to reflect the personality of the bride and groom, and the very tight and minute-defined planning – to match the hours of sunshine of the day with the FIVE changes of clothes and looks – and to respect the magnificence of the location at every “shooting” and moment of the ceremony. The set-up had a minimalist and sophisticated design, with the use of natural materials such as wood, linen and ceramics, which perfectly harmonize with the tones of the earth and the sea. The soft shades of beige, white and dusty blue evoke the serenity of the surrounding landscape, creating a perfect balance between modernity and tradition.
Every detail was carefully taken care of: from the eclectic flowers carefully selected locally, to the decorations that included a selection of Sardinian craftsmanship.
Far, indeed very far from the clichés and rituals of traditional weddings, this event was a real challenge for our team, which had to deal with a demanding couple with very personal focuses sometimes far from what we are used to, but no less intriguing. From Karaoke to the party (well, how many times have you seen a karaoke at an elegant wedding?!) to the reprise of the first dance in favor of the camera, up to the time dedicated to the meticulous hairstyle & makeup, so crucial for Asian brides that it became the supporting column around which the entire wedding planning revolved.
An event therefore pure and unfiltered, extravagant and timeless at the same time, which we will certainly remember for many years to come.
